“Nightmare” confronts the emotional aftermath of sexual assualt. Using a figure with two distinct expressions (agony and anger), Kayla conveys the duality of the pain and rage that coexists when confronting being sexually assaulted.

Kayla uses a warm red color palette to intensify the emotional impact of “Nightmare”, in order to symbolize both raw vulnerability and the suppressed anger many victims have. “Nightmare” is not only a personal expression of Kayla’s experience with sexual assault, but an emphasis on the emotional volatility of the experience that victims share.
